The music is brisk and playful in character, and commences with dry key clicks on the flute and clarinet. As the piece progresses, short individual tones are introduced and gradually become more and more intense. The different passages segue seamlessly from one to another, and at times the three instruments are tightly intertwined. In the micro we see the basic movement of life. Ordinarily, we learn how to understand each other through collaboration, experiencing the art of others. If we focus more on the micro, we can therefore make life more beautiful in the macro. Nucleus is my first piece with an emphasis on biology and the art of experiencing it through layers.

Nucleus is a composition for flute, B-flat clarinet and oboe, composed for Ensemble Mosaik and premiered in the Sprengel Museum, Hannover in May 2022. It deals with the cell and the function of the nucleus at its centre, without which the cell cannot survive. With this piece I wanted to present my sonic ideas as a transcription in the cell, namely the instantaneous process of DNA being transferred to mRNA, which in turn transforms into protein.
