Description

This sonata written by Cem Esen in 2021 and first performance released by violinist Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev in Voyages: Chapter Istanbul Album. There are 3 different movements.

Composer says about the piece: “I always write about the deep emotions and speaking with my hearth. Sometimes I feel my own Mephistophele, sometimes I feel the angels and sometimes fighting with myself. You may find these all emotional expressions in these movements.

1st Mov: It’s not just a diabolical question, but it sure is. And a devil too.

2nd Mov: You pray, with all purity and beauty, but it is a sad prayer. Whatever a person is going through, he prays mostly when he is looking for happiness, not when he is actually happy. Then, suddenly, an angel appears. Suddenly. We hear its wings, we feel its presence. It appears before us. How would you feel if suddenly an angel came while you were praying? Were you afraid? No, the angel in all its glory looks at us so beautifully. We start talking to her. We hear her theme. We present all our troubles and all our wishes to the angel who looks at us with love. Then we question, why me? Why did you come to me? This time the angel begins to answer, we hear her voice. After all this serenity, happiness, we begin to thank her. This time we offer these beautiful prayers to the angel, after she is gone, we start to cry. We cry happily…

3rd Mov: It is about a discussion.”

Duration of the piece is around 25 min.
